Apply for a fishing licence
If you want to fish or go fishing, you must have a valid fishing licence.
The fishing licence is valid if you have paid the fishing tax for the current calendar year. This does not apply to youth fishing licences.
In addition to the fishing licence, you also need the permission of the person who holds the fishing rights for the body of water.

Prerequisite
Fishing licence for young people (youth fishing licence)
- You are between 7 and 15 years old,
- You do not have a certificate of competence and
- Your parents or their representative give their consent
With a youth fishing licence, you may only fish under the supervision of a person of legal age who holds a valid fishing licence. The youth fishing licence is valid until the end of the year in which you turn 16.
Fishing licence for life
- You are at least 10 years old and
- You can provide proof of the required expertise.
You may only take the fishing examination if you have successfully completed a course recognised by the Ministry of Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection.
As a rule, you will receive a fishing licence for life, in exceptional cases for one calendar year.
Procedure
You can apply for a fishing licence in person or in writing to your local authority.
Another person can also submit the application on your behalf. You must issue this person with a power of attorney.

Costs

You must have the fishing licence with you when fishing.
Fishing licences from the various federal states are generally valid throughout Germany. If you move your main residence from another federal state to Baden-Württemberg, the fishing licence from the other federal state is valid until the end of the following calendar year at the latest.
Holidaymakers from abroad receive a fishing licence for four weeks within a calendar year without proof of expertise.
