Roadworks on public roads - apply for a traffic order

Construction work on public roads that affects normal traffic must be specially secured.
You need a traffic order to carry out the work.

Among other things, this ensures that

  • safe traffic management is guaranteed and
  • the flow of traffic is affected as little as possible.

Prerequisite

You plan work on public roads and thereby influence traffic.

Procedure

Apply for the traffic order from the relevant road traffic or building authority. You can do this in person, in writing or digitally.

The local road traffic authority will work out the authorisation requirements together with

  • the person making the application,
  • the other authorities affected by the planned construction project and
  • the police.

As the person submitting the application, the police will issue you with the approved application in the form of a traffic order, possibly with conditions and requirements.

Deadlines

Submit the application in good time, as the approval process can take up to 2 months for measures that require extensive coordination.

    This also includes other necessary documents such as a traffic sign plan, site plan, photos or sketches, which you must submit to the authorising authority on request.
  • RSA qualification certificate in accordance with MVAS 99
    RSA stands for guidelines for traffic safety at road works.
    Every person who carries out road safety measures must be qualified in accordance with the MVAS 99 Code of Practice.

Costs

Depending on the fee regulations and the workload of the responsible authority.

They take into account, among other things

  • The nature and extent of the impact on the road
  • the economic interest of the applicant
  • Duration of the restriction of the road space
